WAM in Byron Bay

Sun, Ceremony and One Effortless Dress

There's a particular kind of light that hits the north coast in winter. Soft, golden, a little slower than summer's glare. It's the light Belinda got married in, barefoot on the sand just outside Byron Bay, in a dress that worked as hard as she did without ever looking like it was trying.

If you're planning a Byron Bay wedding, you already know the trade-off everyone warns you about: pack light or pack twice. One dress for the ceremony, another for the reception, a third for the morning-after brunch nobody tells you to plan for. Belinda didn't want the trade-off. So we didn't give her one.

Meet the Ciara

The Ciara is one of our most requested silhouettes for exactly this reason. Bias cut, fluid, no boning or structure fighting against you when all you want to do is walk on sand and mean your vows. It's the kind of beach wedding dress that moves with a coastal breeze instead of against it, which if you've ever tried to wrangle a tulle skirt in an ocean wind, you'll understand is not a small thing.

For the ceremony, Belinda layered the Ciara with our Etienne tulle top overlay, a softer, more covered take with statement sleeves and a modest neckline sitting over the gown beneath. It gave her the coverage she wanted for a winter morning vow exchange, without losing an ounce of that coastal bridal style ease. Romantic, considered, completely her.

One Dress, Second Act

As the sun dropped and the reception kicked off, Belinda lifted the Etienne overlay off, leaving just the Ciara gown underneath. Simple, clean, unapologetically chic. Suddenly there was less volume, more skin, a whole new mood for the party half of the day, without a single garment bag or outfit change involved. Same dress. Completely different feeling.

That's the whole idea behind how we design. A dress shouldn't have one job and then retire to the back of your wardrobe. The Ciara and Etienne combination is re-wear proof across destinations, built to earn its keep well past the one day it was bought for. Byron Bay this winter. A friend's wedding next year. A long lunch somewhere with good light, minus the tulle.

"I didn't want a wedding dress I'd only wear once. I wanted one that could go the distance with me."

— Belinda
