Trends Talk: Come along as the team discuss current wedding trends

Trends Talk is a new segment where the team sit down to discuss some of the biggest wedding and bridal trends of the moment. From dresses to wedding venues, decor and entertainment, we break down all of the trends that we keep seeing on our explore pages.

Non-Traditional Venues and Ceremonies

To kick off trends talk, we are going to start with the rise of untraditional wedding venues, with more and more couples opting for unique venues and locations to celebrate. From libraries to museums and warehouses, people are finding different ways to express their personal style and personalities through choosing a location that creates a one of a kind experience for their guests. We love this trend, as we think the day should be about celebrating love and utilising the venue chosen on the day as a way to express yourself.

Two-Piece Wedding Dresses

The rise of the bridal two-piece has been a dominating wedding dress trend over the last few years, with brides opting for a top and skirt set over a classic wedding dress silhouette. From corset style tops and bias cut skirts, to draping halter neck necks and extravagant skirts, two-piece wedding looks enables the bride to completely tailor her look from top to bottom. Bridal separates can be a versatile way you can mix textures, fabrications, embellishments and designs into your look, and can be the perfect way to get creative and have fun with your outfit.

Slick Back Hair

One of the biggest wedding hair trends of the moment is a classic slick back bun or ponytail. We absolutely love a slick back as we find it can be the perfect hassle free, sophisticated hair look that is minimalist, and lets the outfit do the talking. A slick back can be the perfect hair style if your wedding look is backless, or has a lot of detail towards the top of the gown. In saying that, we do also love a natural, blown out, beachy wave. It all depends on the dress and accessories and if you want your hair as a main feature of your look.

Vintage Decor

From antique mirrors and dramatic drapery, to retro silverware, candle holders and vases, vintage decor is making a comeback. Creating an ambience of vintage luxury and old-world glamour, silver decor and tableware has been a reoccurring trend on our Pinterest pages. We love this trend, and think it ads a timeless elegance to any setting or venue. We do think its best suited to in-door, more intimate wedding settings or events.

Film Photography

The resurgence of film photography has been a hot topic within bridal trends for a while now, with more and more couples opting for film as the main method of photography for their special day. We absolutely love film photography, and think it adds a sense of timelessness and nostalgia, with the soft and grainy photographs evoking a sense romance and authenticity to the photos. We love the way it captures genuine moments with imperfections and movement, and our favourite part is that you get the thrill of not being able to see them until they are developed.

DIY Stationary

There is nothing we love more at WAM then sustainable and budget friendly wedding decorations, and there is no better way to do this then doing it yourself. We love seeing all the Tik Tok’s of brides explaining how to design your wedding stationary yourself on Canva, or purchasing from small and sustainable businesses off Etsy. We think hand-drawn elements from the bride or groom such as name cards or seating plans can add a personalised touch to decor, and can be a great way to make your wedding more budget friendly.

Strict Dress Codes

One of our least favourite wedding trends is super strict dress codes. We have no problem with a dress code, but when it gets restrictive for guests, we think it takes away from the joy and meaning of the event. By all means, create a dress code that suits the aesthetic look of your wedding, but we don’t love those dress codes that fit a super tight brief, leaving guests scrambling to find something to wear. Let the focus be on having fun and celebrating love with your favourite people.

Wedding Cake Alternatives

From donut stands, to gelato carts and cheese towers, wedding cake alternatives are another food related wedding trend that is becoming increasingly popular, and we love it. Particularly for the more non-traditional weddings, we love the way a wedding cake alternative can add a unique touch to the event. It can also be a budget friendly alternative to a big, fancy wedding cake.
