Meet Angela:
From Zimmermann
to Your Wedding Day

"I wanted to create a dress that a woman could wear on her wedding day and reach for again — because it was genuinely too beautiful to leave in a box."

Behind every We Are Mancini gown is a story of nearly two decades spent learning the craft from the inside out. It's a story that starts in a family home shaped by European tailoring traditions, winds through design studios at some of Australia's most recognised labels, and arrives here — at a Sydney bridal brand built on the belief that your wedding dress should work as hard as you do.

That belief belongs to Angela Piper, the founder and creative director of We Are Mancini.

A designer shaped by craft

Angela grew up surrounded by the kind of sewing that happens at kitchen tables — careful, considered, passed down through generations. It left an impression. When it came time to choose a path, she packed her bags for New Zealand to study a Bachelor of Fashion Design at Massey University, returning to Sydney with a degree and a clear direction: she wanted to understand how clothes were really made.

What followed was an education you can't get in a classroom. Angela spent years honing her patternmaking and garment technology skills working for some of Australia's most acclaimed fashion names — Zimmermann, Lee, KIVARI, IXIAH — learning the technical language of fit, construction and quality that separates a dress that looks beautiful from one that feels beautiful to wear.

That deep technical foundation is what makes WAM gowns different. When Angela talks about bias cut construction, she's not speaking in abstractions — she's drawing on thousands of hours of hands-on work with fabric, bodies and toiles. It's expertise that shows up in every seam.

Why bridal?

We Are Mancini was founded in 2013 as an homage to those family tailoring traditions Angela grew up with — and to a gap she kept noticing in the market. Bridal wear had become expensive, inaccessible and overwhelmingly uniform. The boutique fitting experience felt exclusionary. The gowns themselves were often designed to be worn once, archived, and never touched again.

Angela wanted to offer something different. A gown you could shop online, in your own time, without the pressure of a showroom. A dress that celebrated your actual body — not a sample size — because the bias cut she'd spent years mastering genuinely moves with every shape. And a design so considered it could carry you beyond the ceremony: to a hen's night, a reception dinner, a special occasion years down the track.

That's the philosophy at the heart of every WAM collection: wear it more than once.

Craftsmanship

Every gown is made locally in Sydney, by hand, with care.

Inclusivity

Bias cut construction that moves with every body shape.

Sustainability

Designed to be worn again — not boxed away and forgotten.

Simplicity

Effortless elegance, without the boutique-fitting pressure.

What makes a WAM dress different?

Angela's specialism in bias cut construction is the quiet technical genius behind WAM's body-inclusive promise. Cut on the cross grain of the fabric, bias-cut garments drape and stretch in response to the wearer rather than constraining her. It's a technique that requires precision — get it wrong and the fabric twists; get it right and the result is something that feels effortless to wear because it genuinely is.

For brides who are shopping online without the safety net of a physical fitting, this matters enormously. Angela has engineered WAM's gowns to arrive and fit — not to need fixing. The technical work happens in the studio so the experience at your door (and at the altar) feels seamless.

Add to that WAM's commitment to local Sydney design and handpicked manufacturing partners in Shanghai — small runs, quality-controlled, made with the kind of attention a large-scale manufacturer simply can't provide — and you have a genuinely different proposition in the Australian bridal fashion landscape.

For the bold, the unique, the fearlessly stylish

We Are Mancini is not for every bride. It's for the one who knows who she is. She might be a little bit boho, she might be minimalist and precise, she might be reaching for something that doesn't quite fit the traditional wedding mould — but she wants to look extraordinary. She cares about where her clothes come from and who made them. She wants to support Australian small business and she appreciates quality that lasts.

If that sounds like you, you've found your designer.
