Byron Bay, a coastal town in the southeastern part of New South Wales, is one of the most sought after locations for both destination weddings and romantic honeymoons. Known for its spectacular beaches, laid-back surfing culture and countless places to eat and shop, it is often a go-to option for people wanting a destination beachside wedding, or a relaxing, quintessential Australian honeymoon experience.

What to Do

Beach Hop - Byron Bay is home to some of the most extraordinary beaches, and is a top activity to do whilst there. Easy to access from the central part of Byron town is Main Beach, Clarkes Beach and The Pass. Visit the Pass to walk up the Fisherman’s Lookout for panoramic views. Wategos Beach is a must visit, with its crystal clear water and leafy picnic area making it the perfect place to spend the day. 

Coastal Walks - Byron offers many unmissable coastal walks, with the most popular being the Cape Byron Walking Track, known as the Lighthouse Walk. The Lighthouse Walk is a 3.8km track that takes you through the luscious rainforest and across the clifftops. 

Explore the Hinterland - A 20 minute or so drive from the centre of Byron Bay is the hinterland, which is home to several incredible little villages filled with shops, cafes and restaurants. Bangalow, is one of our favourites, home to Italian restaurant Ciao, Mate! and Mediterranean inspired restaurant, The Hut. Newrybar is another historical village that is a great place to explore, popping into Harvest for a meal. 

Shop and Explore - Byron Bay town has evolved so much over the last decade, and now has endless boutiques and shops to explore. Walk down Fletcher, Lawson and Marvell Street for some Byron exclusive boutiques and vintage shops, alongside stores from some of your favourite Australian brands.

Where to Stay

Raes on Wategos - A non budget friendly option, but iconic, Raes on Wategos is a boutique hotel and retreat, on the shores of Wategos Beach. Known for its recognisable bohemian architecture and renowned restaurant, this is the perfect place to stay if on your honeymoon, or wanting to splurge on an unforgettable stay. 

The Bower - Popular accommodation spot for wedding guests, The Bower is a luxurious hotel inspired by the laid-back atmosphere of Byron, combined with New York’s boutique hotels. Filled with carefully curated furniture, artwork and interiors, this is a great place for honeymoon, or wedding accomodation.

Elements of Byron - For a more resort style experience, Elements of Byron is located on the beachfront on Belongil Beach, and is a tranquil haven for visitors wanting to indulge in spa treatments, yoga classes, and guided walks. 

Hotel Marvell - Newly opened and already a much loved spot for couples, Hotel Marvell adorns Instagram worthy interiors filled with natural materials and tonal colours. Its rooftop pool and bar has become a selling point for visitors, and a luxurious destination for newlyweds.

Where to Eat and Drink

The Mez Club - Inspired by Moroccan architecture and the Greek Islands, The Mez Club is perfect for some cocktails and share plates.

Light Years - For modern asian cuisine and an expansive cocktail menu, pop into Light Years in the heart of Byron town for lunch or dinner.

Beach Byron Bay - Located on the beachfront of Clarkes Beach, this restaurant is less budget friendly, however the perfect location for a meal overlooking the sunset.

The Farm - A regenerative working farm in Ewingsdale, The Farm is home to Three Blue Ducks, a restaurant offering an inventive menu created from the produce grown on site.   

The Balcony Bar & Oyster Co. - For cocktails, tapas and of course, oysters, visit The balcony Bar & Oyster Co. for a relaxed dining experience.

Stone & Wood Brewery - For the beer lovers, visit the Stone & Wood Brewery’s tasting room, beer garden and canteen.

The Top Shop - An iconic cafe housed within a 1950’s milk bar, The Top Shop is a must visit for classic breakfast and lunch options.

Frida’s Field - A private eco-farm, restaurant and event space, Frida’s Field is located in the Byron hinterland and offers a picture-perfect farm experience with incredible lawns and views.

The Fig Tree - Home to a 150-year old historic fig tree, this venue adorns some of the regions best hinterland and ocean views for a quintessential Byron Bay wedding experience.

The Orchard Estate - A modern contemporary barn-inspired restaurant, The Orchard Estate is located on a macadamia nut farm, and is a tranquil venue for more intimate ceremonies.
