A Day in the Life at We Are Mancini
Ever wondered what actually happens between "she said yes" and "you may now kiss the bride"? A whole lot of coffee, honestly. But also a lot of listening, sketching, sourcing and stitching that goes on quietly behind the scenes here at We Are Mancini (WAM). So we thought it was time to pull back the curtain and show you a real day in the studio, straight from our founder and designer, Angela.
6am — Grounding before the grind
My day starts with pilates and meditation. Before I'm a designer, a business owner or a mum, I need to be a person who's actually awake and calm. Bridal is an emotional industry. Brides are trusting me with one of the biggest days of their lives, so I like to show up steady and present, not frazzled.
After that it's the very glamorous task of getting the kids fed, dressed and out the door to school. Some things never change, dress designer or not.
8:30am — Emails and espresso
Back at the studio, I open my inbox and go through manufacturer questions first. Every gown you see online has gone through dozens of tiny decisions on our end: fabric weights, seam finishes, construction details, all the things that make sure your dress fits and moves the way it should. This is the unglamorous but genuinely important part of keeping WAM's quality where it needs to be.
Then, coffee. Non-negotiable.
10am — Meeting a bride, virtually
One of my favourite parts of the day is our virtual consultations, and today I'm meeting a bride in Melbourne who's fallen for our Ciara gown online. If you've ever tried to buy a wedding dress from your laptop, you'll know the nerves that come with it. Is the fabric really that colour? Will it actually suit me? Can I trust a photo on a screen with a decision this big?
That's exactly why we do these calls. A dress rarely tells its full story until it's on you, in the room, with all the little pieces together.
On our Google Meet, I get to show her the gown up close, walk her through the fabric, the drape, the little details that don't always translate in a photo. We talk about what she's imagining for her day, and by the end of the call she's not just seeing the Ciara, she's picturing herself in it.
We book her in for a studio visit next month, where she'll try the gown on in person and play with a couple of veil options alongside it.
1pm — Chasing inspiration after lunch
After lunch, my brain shifts into design mode. Today I'm deep in long sleeve wedding gown inspiration. I'm looking at more textural fabrics so the silhouettes can stay clean and simple, and playing with the idea of gathers and tucks to give our silk satin some extra surface interest without overcomplicating the shape.
I pull ideas from stylists, runway shows, and the latest fabric swatches that have just landed from our suppliers. There's something special about the moment a fabric arrives and it sparks a whole new direction. That's when the sketchbook comes out and I start playing with shapes, working through pattern adjustments before sending them back to the supplier for sampling. It's slow, considered work, but it's how every WAM piece earns its place in the range.
8pm — Winding down, but not quite off the clock
After dinner and once my little one is tucked in, I usually sneak back to my desk for one last task: our social strategy. Tonight I'm setting up some Instagram and TikTok content celebrating our real brides, the ones who wore WAM their way, on their terms, looking exactly like themselves. Because at the end of the day, that's the whole point.
Why we share this
We know buying a wedding dress can feel like a big, sometimes overwhelming decision, especially when so much bridal shopping happens online now. We wanted you to see the real people and real process behind your gown: the sketches, the fittings, the fabric swatches, the late night spreadsheet sessions. Because when you wear it more than once, we want you to know exactly who made it, and why.
Curious about the Ciara gown or want to book your own studio visit?
We'd love to show you around.
